COURSE DESCRIPTION

3D Printing Fast Track: From Paperweight to Production

Is your 3D printer just an expensive paperweight? Not after this class. This fast-paced, practical session is designed to get you printing reliable, usable parts fast. Attendees will learn how to properly set up and maintain their printer, understand essential software workflows, and apply proven techniques to improve print quality and consistency. With a focus on real-world applications relevant to fabrication, automotive, and aftermarket environments, this course cuts through the noise and delivers actionable knowledge you can use immediately in the shop.

This technical, fast-paced session is designed for installers, fabricators, and builders who want predictable, repeatable results from desktop 3D printers. Attendees will learn how to properly calibrate and maintain FDM printers, understand critical slicing parameters, and optimize print settings for strength, accuracy, and surface finish. The course focuses on real-world additive manufacturing workflows used in modern fabrication environments, emphasizing problem diagnosis, material selection, and design considerations that directly impact print success and part durability.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • How to properly calibrate FDM printers (bed leveling, extrusion, temps, and flow) for consistent, repeatable results

  • Critical slicer settings explained—layer height, infill, wall thickness, supports, and how each impacts strength and finish

  • How to diagnose and fix common print failures like warping, layer separation, poor adhesion, and stringing

  • Material selection for real-world shop use (PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, Nylon) and when each makes sense in automotive environments

  • Designing and orienting parts for strength, durability, and post-processing efficiency

  • Practical workflows for producing usable brackets, mounts, trims, fixtures, and one-off shop solutions—fast
