STSTEM TUNING
THURSDAY: 2:15pm - 4:30pm
STSTEM TUNING - ADVANCED HI-FI

INSTRUCTORS:
ANDY WEHMEYER & GERMAN SCHULMEISTER
ROOM: CONFERENCE THEATER
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Multichannel and immersive audio systems are now common in premium OEM vehicles, and installers are increasingly being asked to improve. Even in the aftermarket, some customers are no longer satisfied with a great one-seat listening experience. Many want exceptional sound for both front seats and sometimes the back seats, too.
In this session, we’ll break down what multichannel and immersive audio systems are, how they function, and why they are fundamentally different from traditional two-channel, one-seat systems. We’ll explain the role of the center channel and how modern processing generates center, side, and rear signals. You’ll learn the differences between up-mixing, discrete surround, and object-based audio formats, with system examples ranging from three-channel stereo to full Dolby Atmos® implementations.
The class wraps up with practical guidance on system integration and tuning strategies to ensure that these complex systems perform as intended once installed.
If you own or work in a shop that serves audio enthusiasts, high-end clients, you work on premium vehicles or if you want to know where automotive sound is headed—this is a must-attend session.
-
The fundamentals of multichannel and immersive audio systems in modern vehicles
-
How two- and multi-seat systems differ from traditional one-seat system design
-
The purpose of the center channel and how modern processors create spatial audio signals
-
Key differences between upmixed, discrete, and object-oriented surround formats
-
Practical integration and tuning considerations for immersive automotive audio systems

OPEN SOUND METER: POWERFUL SOFTWARE FOR TUNING & TROUBLESHOOTING AUDIO SYSTEMS
INSTRUCTORS:
PAVEL SMOKOTNIN
ROOM: CONFERENCE THEATER
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Pavel Smokotnin, developer of Open Sound Meter presents a primer on its use with real world problem-solving examples that will help to make systems you build sound their best quickly and predictably. Want to view time, phase and frequency response all at the same time in real time? Check. Import your target curve for tuning a multi-way system? Check. Generate a spatial average from several microphone locations? Check. Accurately determine arrival time and phase for low passed signals to optimize subwoofer and midbass performance? Check. See examples of all of this and more in a course designed to introduce powerful, configurable software that will make your job easier and your systems sound better.
Pavel Smokotnin is an audio engineer and software developer with an engineering education and a background in applied mathematics.
He has extensive experience in audio systems and signal processing, developing professional software and hardware tools for audio measurement, tuning, and system control, as well as teaching these approaches through professional training seminars.
Pavel is the developer behind Open Sound Meter, a real-time audio measurement and analysis application.
